About the Show’s Name

They Mostly Podcast at Night is a play on a quote from Aliens, when the young Newt tells Ripley, “We’d better get back, because they mostly come at night, mostly.“ about the Xenomorphs. There are a couple shows out there coming rather close to our name, but we had it first, damn it!

About the show’s host

CHAOS!

A Xennial with an absurdist sense of humor who most enjoys psychological horror, international flavors and classics pre-2010 but is always excited by new content that shows originality or pushes boundaries. The weird, the wild, and the wonderful. The Good, the Bad, and the So-Bad-Its-Good!

Some of Chaos’ favorite horror movies include The Cabin in the Woods, Halloween, The Uninvited, The Omen, The Lost Boys, Near Dark, Suspiria, Ju-On, Ginger Snaps, Let the Right One In, The Thing, and Dog Soldiers.

Chaos is resurrecting the show that ended in August of 2023 with tons of new content!

Where to start?!

Well, not at the beginning, that’s for sure. Our first dozen or so episodes were so cringey, tbey eventually got scrubbed from our host for being too yikes. But if you’re new here and curious about the pod’s resurrection, or looking over six years of episodes in bewilderment, we have some options for you:

It’s always easy to pick an episode that has a movie you’re already familiar with, but we also recommend these episodes to get your feet wet.

  • Episode 080: As Above, So Below – A trippy traverse through the Paris Catacombs and actually filmed down there amongst the bones, the movie turns tense, claustrophobic, and desperate pretty fast. A fan favorite!
  • Episode 087: The Prophecy (1995) – This weird thing had Christopher Walken being his delightful self, Eric Stoltz who was way hotter here than in Anaconda (that he was allegedly in), Thomas from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action movie (aka the guy with the bat), and real-life Aragorn, Viggo Mortensen, who came out of nowhere and became the best Lucifer ever!
  • Episode 119: Hell House LLC 2: The Abaddon Hotel and Hell House LLC 3; Lake of Fire – We love this series, and while the first one was technically the best, this was a popular episode and we very much enjoyed these two movies as well. They’re the story of the dunderheads of Abaddon, NY who continue going into murderous ghost houses despite documented proof that people died doing the same thing, and other people with the same evidence being surprised when they don’t come back out alive.
  • Episode 077: The Crow – Oh just shut up I’m crying over here!
  • Episode 264: Orca – In the tradition of ‘hey, just don’t go into the water and that huge predator can’t get you’ comes the Jaws ripoff, Orca! One of the silliest horror movies ever done (except not on porpoise), young Dumbledore messes with a male Orca’s family and HE VOWS REVENGE! So there’s nothing to do but go out on an ice flow and be all surprised when a 30ft enraged marine mammal yeets Dumbles into the sun.
  • Episode 235: The Velocipastor with guests Mama Chaos and Sam Helsing – Listen, if you haven’t seen this love letter to low-budget indie films who over promise and under deliver, you are missing out. We aren’t usually fans of making bad movies on purpose (looking at you, Sharknado), they come across as hackneyed and inauthentic, missing the spark of passionate filmmakers lacking in budget and talent, but Velocipastor had heart, and definitely no budget, but lots of talent. We laughed so hard through the whole episode. Sam Helsing is also a tremendously interesting guest, and can be found in Episode 190: Blood Vessel!

Those Whom The Show Could Not Exist Without

CARNAGE!

Chaos’ original co-host for 6 years who added her laughs, cries, and screams of frustration as well as many many jokes, and who came up with the show’s name. Chaos’ best friend for 25 years, which deserves some kind of award…

MAVERICK!

First friend of the show, biggest fan, first and most prolific guest host, resident Stephen King expert and social media manager! Made us watch Spice World for her birthday, which totally counts as a horror movie.

A simple guest host with an amazing sense of humor and some serious improv skills! Appeared just behind Maverick in number of episodes, often times with his wife, because the couple that podcasts together slays together! Gave us the Hulk Hogan cologne commercial off the cuff in Chaos’ birthday episode (a double feature of 2 Headed Shark Attack and Sand Sharks) and always has a witty quip at the ready.

THE SPARKLY JEANS DONKEY BUTTS!

Another guest host power couple, referred to as the above because we couldn’t remember their hilarious guest aliases (Bubbles and Banjo Pants, it turns out) but guess what I’ll be referring to them as from now on…

We killed them in horror trivia because we didn’t quite think the teams through, but they were great sports about it, and great guests!

  • 200: Interview with the Vampire

SAM HELSING!

A verbose and super interesting guest host, we always loved having Sam on!

  • 190: Blood Vessel

CALAMITY KILT!

Only with us a couple times, but she was a great guest with lots of energy and good quips!

MAMA CHAOS!

How many podcasts thank their mama? Well this one does! My mama got me into horror at a young age (to be fair, I was *supposed* to be napping, but I snuck into her bedroom to watch Poltergeist). She also introduced me to Ellen Ripley and let my Uncle take me to Ghostbusters in theaters despite that I had the attention span of a gnat. Plus she never held my Goth years against me, or minded my Tarantulas.

  • 49: Poltergeist
  • 109: Signs
  • 110: John Carpenter’s The Fog
  • 223: Dark Skies
  • 235: The VelociPastor

HONORABLE MENTIONS!

Also a huge THANK YOU to Erica of Unsung Horrors (121: Don’t Torture A Duckling and 153: The Children) for guesting and having us on her show, and congrats on her new book, The Sweetest Taboo, as well as Deadtime Storiez who were super fun and supportive when we were just starting out! Check out their podcasts!

THE FANS!

We have no idea who you were and why you wanted *so many* ‘Marigold’ stickers, but we don’t even think it had to do with our podcast. Shine on, you crazy diamond.
