E 010 – The Babadook

Listen to episode 10 – The Babadook

Chaos and Carnage learn that you can’t get rid of The Babadook with their guest, Catastrophe, a science teacher with some insights into the adorably obnoxious Samuel, a six year old boy who sees monsters everywhere, and his mother Amelia, struggling with depression after the death of her husband on the night of Samuel’s birth.

When the coolest popup book in the history of evil children’s books shows up on Samuel’s bookshelf, the disturbing imagery inside has Samuel convinced that Mr Babadook is coming for his mother, and he has to protect her. But that’s no easy task when whether it’s in a word, or it’s in a look, you can’t get rid of the Babadook.

Our hosts talk psychology, how the Babadook became a LGBT+ icon, and of course horror in this Australian offering from writer/director Jennifer Kent.
